Discussion:
Eizo's CRT line being discontinued.

I have recently been in search of a *good* CRT monitor (19"-22"). I have
done a lot of research on the Internet. I have come to the conclusion that
the best CRTs come from Eizo Nanao.

However, I can't seem to find anyone on the Internet that has their CRT's
still in stock.

I know, you can do a Google search and find me some retailers that *say*
they have them in stock. However, if you call them, you will find that they
actually no longer have them in stock.

I was confused by this so I called Eizo and talked to a sales rep there. He
informed me that Eizo is discontinuing their CRT product line, and is
focusing on LCDs. This saddened me quite a bit, as it seems Eizo is truely
the only manufacturer you can rely on to produce consistently high quality,
long lasting, well supported CRT monitors.

So the question is -- if you're in the market for a good quality CRT but you
can't get an Eizo -- what do you get?

The research I've done tends to say, get a NEC-Mitsubishi -- and it looks
like that's the road I'm going to have to go down. But NEC-Mitsubishi
monitors just don't play in the same league and Eizo. In fact, it seems
that no monitors play in Eizo's league -- besides a $3000 Barco, which is
outrageous.

What do I do?! I need the CRT's fast response times. The 20ms LCDs just
won't cut it for me.

Yours in a world without Eizo Nanao CRTs,

Michael

Yeah, I got a P90F. Good, but it has flaws. I'm returning it. A brownish
tinted area on the left side of the screen (about the size of a grapefruit).
Its geometry was decent, but there was a 1/12" rise along the bottom edge of
the image. The right hand edge of the image had a small "bump" in the
straightness, although the left edge was fine. The image "quavered" when
examined closely -- not sure what caused this (my 17" philips does not do
this). This wasn't really noticeable from a distance, but it was annoying
to know it was there. The color convergence in the corners left a bit to be
desired -- There was always some combination of colors that seemed
misconverged. The color quality was great though.

Definitely not "professional" in my opinion, unless they mean professional
as in a sales manager. I'm looking for something of a higher caliber. :-)

I got a refurbished P225f last week. It looked great in 1600x1200.
Unfortunately, it broke after one day.

I got a P220f as a replacement. It is ok, but not as good as P225p.
After one day, I dropped the resolution down to ***@85 because the
text was not as crisp at the high res.

I am thinking of looking for a P225f again, or may be NEC-Mitsubishi as you
mentioned.

After some tweaking the monitor settings, P220f is quite acceptable in
***@75.

Yup... One of the two best brands regarding monitors... ;) Other is Barco...
;)

Iiyama or NEC/Mitsubishi... Or LaCie... Or Barco... But Barco is out of the
question with it's price... :)

Barco is the only player which plays in EIZO clas... I'd like to see one
Barco running, to compare it, but EIZO is far better than anything I've
ever seen... I am working on some old EIZO models (1998. F78 and 1999.
F55S)... :) Crisp text on shadow mask tubes... :) Impossible to get anything
better than this today... ;)

Either go with Iiyama or NEC/Mitsubishi or LaCie, or get EIZO LCD...

:) I've got two of those... ;) Pretty cheap, because people often don't know
what EIZO is in fact... :)) And they will pay three times more for
Samsung crap... ;) Who cares, I like that... ;)

Sony still sells the F520, I believe. It's about $1,700, but it's
very nice.

Mitsubishi's DP2070SB-BK with color correction system wouldn't do?
